How to Choose an Invisalign Dentist: The Diamond Edition
In our third and latest take on choosing an Invisalign provider, we’ll help you tell diamonds apart — Invisalign Provider Diamond tiers (including Invisalign Blue Diamond), that is!
Choosing an Invisalign provider is a big decision second only to “Should I get Invisalign?”. When we published our maiden How to Choose an Invisalign Dentist story back in 2017, our goal was to provide you with a basic overview of what to look for when choosing an Invisalign provider. We wrote How to Choose an Invisalign Dentist: Part 2 in 2018 as a follow-up piece because many of you had questions and we didn’t want to leave you hanging. Now that another year has passed, we figured it’s time for a follow-follow-up!
In this edition of How to Choose an Invisalign Dentist, we decided to focus on accreditation tiers. We’ve previously discussed how Invisalign classifies its providers into tiers based on their experience with the system. Over time, more Invisalign providers are levelling up, so it’s important that you do too.
The top rungs of the tier system are all diamond variants — Invisalign Blue Diamond Provider, Diamond Provider and Black Diamond Provider. Maybe Invisalign reckons that diamonds are a girl’s best friend and Diamond Providers are a smile’s best friend? But we digress.
At these tier levels, the providers are all considerably experienced, so how do you tell them apart? Well, it turns out choosing an Invisalign provider is not unlike choosing a diamond! Here’s one way of using the 4Cs of diamonds to guide you along.
Colour could be a gauge of rarity
Most diamonds are clear or ‘white’ diamonds. Coloured diamonds (also called fancy diamonds) are much rarer.
The Invisalign tier system takes a similar approach. Invisalign Diamond Providers have more than 150 cases to their name, but to get to Black Diamond status, they need at least 400. Invisalign Blue Diamond is an even bigger leap at over 750 cases. Naturally, there are fewer providers at the higher end of this list — and i.Dental is one of them. It was awarded Blue Diamond status at the start of this year.
Clarity could mean transparency
A diamond’s clarity refers to how clean it is from blemishes, or how well and easily light is allowed to pass through it. When applying this to a potential Invisalign provider, consider how open and transparent they are. How forthcoming are they in giving you objective advice and information? How comfortable do you feel discussing your ideal smile with them? How well do they listen to your needs and wants? The best way to evaluate this is to meet them in person.
Cut could be the result of technology
The cut of a diamond, which includes its angles, proportions, facets and finishing, has a direct impact on its ability to sparkle. By the same token, your Invisalign provider’s operational setup could influence your ability to sparkle. For Invisalign, which is based on a digitised workflow, technology is an important area to assess. At an Invisalign Dedicated Clinic, like the one i.Dental operates in Capital Tower, you are assured that the clinic is at the head of the queue when it comes to receiving technology upgrades from the system’s makers.
Carat is a measure of weight, rather than size
Two diamonds of the same weight could look very different in size because of the way they have been cut. The same could be said about Invisalign providers. It’s easy to see a large network of conveniently-located clinics but harder to see quality and expertise. Our advice is to do your research and learn more about the clinic and its dentists, including when they started providing Invisalign and what their patients have to say about their experience.
If you suffer from crooked teeth, don’t despair. Think of your smile as a diamond in the rough — just a little effort on your part and a little help from the right Invisalign provider could make all the difference. Keep smiling!
