The Invisalign Teen Cheat Sheet: Teens’ Edition
AKA the Invisalign Teen cheat sheet with all the tips you need to talk to (and convince!) your parents about why you need this teeth-straightening system.
We’ve previously talked about Invisalign as the future of teen orthodontics, and how a straight smile can do wonders for your self-esteem. If you’re a teenager struggling with crooked teeth, you probably want to straighten your teeth without anyone knowing, and without compromising on your lifestyle. Invisalign Teen holds the answers but the question is, how will you convince your parents to agree to – and shell out a pretty penny for – this treatment?
Fret not, because we’ve got your back. Use this nine-step conversation guide to talk to your parents about why you need Invisalign, not braces.
1. Get to the point
“Dad, Mom, we talked about straightening my teeth with braces, but I’ve researched Invisalign Teen, and I’d like to talk to you about why I think it would be a better choice for me, especially at this point in my life.”
2. Give them the Invisalign 101 crash course
“Invisalign Teen is a globally proven teeth-straightening treatment that uses virtually invisible custom-made aligner trays to gently but steadily shift my teeth into position. It’s safe and effective, requires fewer dentist visits, and encourages good oral hygiene.”
3. Explain why invisible is important
“I’m already quite self-conscious about my teeth, and the metal wires from braces aren’t going to make things any easier. Invisalign is virtually invisible and could give me the same results as braces, minus the visual embarrassment.”
4. Talk about how Invisalign fits with your lifestyle
You may have heard that braces and sports are a no-go zone. 🙅🏻 Made for the sporty ones, #InvisalignTeen provides your teen a safe, convenient way to straighten their teeth while still enjoying the activities that they love!Plus, they can take out the aligners while on the field and pop them straight back in afterwards, without worrying about causing any damage to the appliance.

“Invisalign aligners are smooth, so I can play sports without worrying about getting hit in the mouth — with braces, that could be quite dangerous. I can also play my musical instrument without metal wires and brackets cutting my lips or getting in the way.”
5. Explain why removable = remarkable
“Invisalign aligners are removable, so I can take them off and eat anything I want. With braces, I have to avoid hard, chunky or sticky food like raw carrots and popcorn, because they could damage the wires and/or brackets.”
6. Harp on the hygiene factor
“You’ve always told me how important oral hygiene is. Invisalign makes sure that I brush and floss my teeth after every meal, before I put on my aligners. Wearing braces will make cleaning my teeth much more difficult and time consuming. I also may need special dental appliances just to do so.”
7. Highlight how Invisalign makes their lives easier too
“I know how busy you are. With Invisalign, you only need to take me to the dentist once every 6 to 10 weeks, compared to monthly visits for braces. There won’t be any emergency visits in between to fix broken brackets or snapped wires either. If I get Invisalign done at i.Dental, they use a Dental Monitoring app to track my progress and oral hygiene, so you won’t have to worry.”
8. Promise to be compliant
“I know that I have to wear the Invisalign aligners diligently in order to see results. I promise that I will! The aligners come with blue indicators that fade with wear, so you’ll know if I’m slacking off. And if I happen to lose my aligners (which I won’t!), the treatment allows for six free replacements, just in case.”
9. Appreciate that money matters
“Invisalign does cost a little more than traditional braces, but I hope you agree that all the benefits do outweigh the cost. I’ve checked that i.Dental has flexible arrangements to help us manage the treatment cost.”
And that’s it! If you approach your parents in a sincere and serious manner, they are likely to consider your proposal seriously. Don’t expect an instant ‘yes’ though. Rather, use this conversation to get them thinking about Invisalign Teen, and allow them time to do their own research. You can even point them to YourSmile.SG for more resources, including The Invisalign Teen Cheat Sheet: Parents’ Edition.
Check in with your parents a few days after your conversation. If they’re ready to move into the next stage (i.e., an obligation-free consultation with an Invisalign-accredited dentist), make an appointment with i.Dental!
